Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Business Analyst supports and assesses the organization’s business needs and business context through the coordination of cross-functional projects and evaluations. From needs assessment to rollout, the Business Analyst will identify, design and recommend business solutions and analyze impacts on the organization. In addition, the Business Analyst is responsible for turning data into useful information that will drive effective decision making. The position plays an integral role in connecting with internal and external stakeholders, gaining insights through consultations and evaluation, and reporting to the leadership team to ensure business decisions are focused on data-driven indicators and measures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Coordination

  • Support projects and cross-functional initiatives by e.g., booking and facilitating meetings, taking notes, creating supporting tools to organize and visualize information, building timelines, organizing kanban boards, etc.
  • Follow-up project milestones and timelines engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely completion of tasks and actions that affect project delivery.
  • Support the rollout and maintenance of agile methods and tools.


Data Visualization & Business Intelligence

  • Build, test, and troubleshoot all features and functionality of Business Intelligence outputs.
  • Identify relevant information sources and/or develop means of collecting information to determine and calculate correct, well-rounded measures of success for programs, services, and business functions.
  • Deliver key performance indicators (KPIs) dashboards and scorecards to disclose multiple data sources, capturing trends, prompting observations, and opportunities to empower critical business decisions to drive business growth and improve youth experience.
  • Put together data models that help visualize data and support decision making.
  • Analyze areas of improvement to understand what is impacting performance and communicate findings with key stakeholders to work towards performance improvement initiatives.
  • Work directly with subject matter experts to produce, contribute, or review information, and to draft reports and presentations to communicate results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform regular audits to evaluate the quality and integrity of the data across all reporting.
  • Help lead staff through the adoption and utilization of analytics in their day-to-day decision-making, ensuring analytics drive opportunity identification and appropriate investments.
  • Regularly present, engage and seek feedback from the leadership team and key stakeholders on the development and use of analytics and key performance indicators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 1-2 years experience implementing and supporting as a business analyst with demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, communication, data management, project management and analytical skills.
    • A university or college degree/diploma in analytics, or business strategy
    • Experience working in the non-profit sector an asset 
    • Understanding of data management concepts to effectively integrate and analyze data to develop actionable business information deliverables.
    • Qualitative and quantitative analytical experience.
    • Experience facilitating requirements gathering, refinement, and prioritization.
    • Experience producing clear and comprehensive requirements documentation for businesses and audiences within the non-profit sector.
    • Experience managing multi-phased project and program implementations.
    • Robust visual/design capabilities and the ability to leverage data visualizations for presenting complex information in an intuitive manner.
    • Experience with BI, data manipulation & data science tools and their application (Tableau, Power BI)
    • Knowledge of Agile methodologies is an asset.
    • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.

    Additional requirements

    • Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Police Check Program.
    • Must be qualified to legally work in Canada.
    • Ability to both work from home and at our offices located in Downtown Toronto.
    • Ability to travel to other community-based settings as needed.
